Works in the Land Use Controls Section of the Memphis and Shelby County Office of Planning and Development as project manager on assigned zoning and subdivision applications.

SALARY:
Minimum: $3,519.00 Monthly

At least three (3) years of experience in project management of land use cases. Must have graduated from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in City or Regional Planning, Urban Geography, Urban Studies or a closely related field. (Master’s Degree preferred). PROOF OF EDUCATION IS REQUIRED.)

1. Prepares staff reports and recommendations for zoning, subdivision, special use permit, planned development and Board of Adjustment applications;
2. Presents staff recommendations to the Land Use Control Board, Board of Adjustment, Memphis City Council and Shelby County Board of Commissioners;
3. Meets with applicants and members of the general public to advise them of ordinance requirements and procedures;
4. Reviews preliminary and final plans to ensure consistency with legislative approvals;
5. Reviews and recommends proposed amendments to the Memphis and Shelby County Unified Development Code, which serves as the zoning and subdivision regulations for the City of Memphis and unincorporated Shelby County; and
6. Performs other duties as assigned
1. Knowledge of planning concepts and land use planning principles;
2. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
3. Ability to coordinate planning activities and coordinate with other agencies;
4. Ability to communicate effectively with the general public and with co-workers;
5. Knowledge of urban design criteria;
6. Knowledge of land use law, ordinances and regulations.
